First-Generation Scholarships

Scholarship applications are now open

First-generation college students enrolled in undergraduate degree programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on Arizona State University's Tempe campus may apply for more than $10,000 in scholarships. First-generation scholarship applications for 2018-2019 are now open.

There are several different scholarships with varied application criteria. Only one application is required for all scholarships – except the Faire Elizabeth Virgin Sax Scholarship and the Irwin R. Sheer and Yvonne H. Sheer Endowed Scholarship. Students will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

The application deadline is Friday, February 2, 2018.

First-generation scholarships

The scholarships listed below are open to students in all majors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on ASU's Tempe campus (all scholarship amounts are approximate).

  • CLAS Alumni First-Generation Scholarship (one scholarship ≈ $700)
  • CLAS Dean's First-Generation Scholarship (three scholarships ≈ $650 each)
  • Dean’s Advancement Council First-Generation Scholarship (one scholarship ≈ $660)
  • Helen and Ong C. Hing Family First-Generation Scholarship (one scholarship ≈ $1,000)
  • Al and Viola Madrid Endowed Scholarship (one scholarship ≈ $1,900)
  • McKee Family Scholarship (one scholarship ≈ $1,000)
  • John Rockefeller First-Generation Scholarship (one scholarship ≈ $1,100)
  • Irwin R. Sheer and Yvonne H. Sheer Endowed Scholarship (two scholarships ≈ $2,000 each)
  • Faire Elizabeth Virgin Sax Scholarships (up to two scholarships ≈ $10,000 each)

There are also first-generation scholarships available for students in specific majors.

The application and selection process

Applications for the 2018-19 first-generation scholarships are now open. Only one application is required for all scholarships, except the Faire Elizabeth Virgin Sax Scholarship and the Irwin R. Sheer and Yvonne H. Sheer Endowed Scholarship. Students will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

Students must complete and submit an application through ASU's Scholarship Portal
