As a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, you can receive internship credit through your individual department determined by your major. However, some internships are not deemed appropriate for credit through your school or department. LIA 484 can be an option depending on your individual situation.
You must have an internship in place prior to contacting us regarding LIA 484. You may take up to three credits based on the amount of hours that you work over the course of your internship. These are upper-division general elective credits that are graded as pass/fail (Y/E). You must have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher. You must also contact us prior to the beginning of their internship and the semester. You may only earn credit for your internship experience once; we are unable to give duplicate credit for the same internship.
If you’re completing a pre-health internship, you may also receive LIA 484 credit but you’ll have a separate set of requirements and will sign up for a different section. To learn more about pre-health internship options, please visit: http://prehealth.asu.edu/content/internships.

LIA 484 is a pass/fail course. You will receive a Y or E based on the acceptable fulfillment of course requirements. Internships contribute to the education of the whole person by emphasizing the importance of the professional experience and by providing opportunities for self-reflection. You should choose your internship based on your own interests and relate what you have learned in school to its application in the workplace. In addition, your internship should help you evaluate yourself as a professional and as a potential employee in a particular professional field. Take this opportunity to build on your résumé and professional portfolio. Your internship experiences should offer you access to potential mentors in your fields of interest.
You must be a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to enroll in LIA 484, with the following exception: If you have accepted a position in the Disney Program, you may take up to 6 credits of LIA 484, which includes the successful completion of an accredited Disney course.
