The Maher Alumni Scholarship recognizes an outstanding graduate student participating in cancer research with a faculty member in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University. The scholarship provides approximately $5,000 and is awarded annually.

Applications are due March 15, 2017.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications from outstanding graduate students who are working on cancer research. The intent of this award is to help support research that will advance knowledge of the disease.

Applications are due March 15, 2017. We anticipate one non-compensatory fellowship of $5,000 will be awarded in July 2017.

  • Doctoral or master’s students enrolled in a CLAS administered graduate program during Spring 2017 and Fall 2017 semesters are eligible.
  • Students must be working on advancing cancer research to apply for this scholarship.
  • Students should demonstrate academic excellence, research and scholarly achievements.

  • Application information requested includes:
    • Name, ASU ID#, Degree program
    • Student CV
    • Student letter (500 words or less) explaining their interest in cancer research and how the award will further their work in the field.
    • A letter of support from a faculty advisor/committee chair.
  • Application timeline:
    • Applications must be completed and submitted online by March 17, 2017.
    • Announcements will be sent to students by June 15, 2017
    • Awards will be posted to student account by July 1, 2017

  • The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will hold an award ceremony is the Spring of 2018 to honor the scholarship recipients, including the Maher Scholarship awardees.
