Humanities Early Start

Uncover the human adventure at Arizona State University. 

Get a head start on college life with the Humanities Early Start program at ASU. You’ll move to campus early, make new friends and learn about your major – all while earning three elective credits. 

The program, at no cost to you, includes eleven days from Wednesday, August 6, to Saturday, August 16, and then 10 hours during the fall semester.

Meet humanities majors like you.

Through firm foundations in writing, research, language study and debate, the humanities offer a toolkit for the creation of a fulfilling life and a more just world. Start your Sun Devil journey with students who are passionate about the human experience across time, culture and place. 

Participants are majors in one of our three humanities academic units in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences:

During Early Start, you can expect to be busy each day throughout the entirety of the program. 

And we promise — you won’t be sitting and falling asleep in a classroom all day!

Schedule

In addition to the schedule below, evening activities will take place one to two times per week. All meals are included.

Wednesday, August 6–Saturday, August 16 | 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily 
(No classes on Sunday, August 10, or Thursday, August 14)

Program details

Here are some of the activities you’ll participate in:

  • Attend First Friday art walks.
  • Go hiking and watch movies.
  • Experience ASU’s Dreamscape Learn.
  • Learn how to approach coursework.
  • Begin thinking about careers linked to your major.
  • Explore campus, Tempe and the greater Phoenix area.
  • Navigate your major within the context of your interests.
  • Meet and engage with faculty from across humanities disciplines.
  • Engage in reading and writing activities that prepare you for your first semester of college.
     

 

Gain insights from mentors and leaders.

During Early Start, you’ll work with dedicated faculty members and advisors in the humanities who are eager to help you succeed at ASU. 

You’ll get to know your professors and mentors on a personal and professional level so you’ll be more confident asking for help during the school year.
