How to Enroll

Mission

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) Residential College and Learning Communities strive to reinforce the academic mission of the College by supporting students’ transition to college level learning and by building connections between and among students and the rest of the University.

Integrative Learning Experience

CLAS Learning Communities began being offered in fall 2003 and have continued to provide exceptional academic experiences for incoming ASU freshman. Our Learning Communities offer a special kind of curriculum linking two or more courses around an interdisciplinary theme and enroll a small group of students.  They are a great way to learn how to learn. We have specifically designed courses in our communities to set you on the road to success by allowing you to complete the general studies requirements.  Click on Courses & Schedules or Syllabi to see the specifics of our offerings for incoming freshmen.

In partnership with several campus programs we offer first-year students a unique opportunity to enrich their academic experience.  We promote learning beyond the walls of the classroom by providing opportunities for students to share common interests and develop a support system.

The activities at CLAS Hall are designed to connect CLAS students to University life by fostering relationships with peers, faculty, and advisors.

The following are activities and services we offer our students in the Learning Communities, and in

CLAS Hall at Hassayampa Academic Village:

  1. Study groups and test reviews—Lounges on each floor provide space for organized group study reviews sessions with peer mentors.
  2. Workshops—Classrooms in College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) Hall provide computer-mediated equipment for workshops.  Workshops are developed for specific Learning Communities (LC) curricular projects.
  3. Movie nights—wide screen plasma televisions for movies that Learning Communities use for additional curricular support.
  4. Kitchen Facility—a full kitchen available for LC staff and students to prepare food and refreshments for academic programming and social events.
  5. Dinner with CLAS Deans—monthly dinners onsite where students and CLAS deans share food, conversation, experiences and concerns.
  6. Lunch with LC Faculty—an opportunity for faculty and students to learn about each other outside the classroom environment.
  7. Floor competitions—competitive floor events promoting community identity and college spirit.
