What are the minimum eligibility requirements?
You must be eligible to take ENG 101/105.
If I sign up for a Learning Community and complete all the courses will I receive a separate grade for each course taught within the cluster at the end of the semester?
Yes, a separate grade for each course will appear on your transcript. However, each learning community has differing grading policies. Some give each course a separate grade or the same grade for all the courses offered.
Once I have registered for the course sections in a particular community may I drop one of the courses and pick up a different one not linked to the cluster?
No, you will automatically be dropped from the community. The instructors within each community have designed their particular courses to develop aspects of the theme of the community. Because all the courses within each community are intellectually linked, if you decide to drop one of these courses, you will be automatically dropped from all of the courses within the community.
If I am not planning to live in the Learning Community residence hall, Hassayampa Academic Village (HAV), will I be able to seek help from the peer mentors assigned to my community?
Yes, all students in each Learning Community are eligible to use the help of the peer mentors assigned to their community whether or not they live in the Learning Communities residence hall.
What if I chose to live on campus but not at Hassayampa Academic Village?
We strongly encourage students registered in a Learning Community and plan to live on campus to select HAV because the activities we provide at HAV are designed to connect students to University life by fostering relationships with peers, faculty and advisors.
Will I be able to see a syllabus?
You may view syllabi on this website. You may check this Website for new and past learning communities courses too.
Will I be able to view my class schedule before the semester starts?
Yes, each community class schedule is available on our website
Will I get to meet my professors before the semester starts?
Yes, a reception for all Learning Communities students, faculty, librarians and teaching assistants involved in the program will be held the week before classes begin in August.
How will you contact me before the semester begins?
We contact students in each community by e-mail. If you have not given us a different e-mail address by filling out the form on this Web site, we will send an e-mail to the asu.edu address you were given before orientation.
If I have other questions not answered here, whom should I contact?
You should contact Assistant Director of Academic Services (learncomm@asu.edu), College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Office of Student Academic Programs, Learning Communities Institute (480-965- 6506).
