This community focuses on understanding the important consequences of World War II (fall semester) and the Vietnam War (spring semester). Students learn how these events affected the societies of the United States and the world while earning 12 general-studies credits.

2. Human Disease and Society. 2003-04; 2004-05

This community looks at disease and some of its implications for society, from ethical, health, philosophical and historical perspectives. Students receive a foundation in biology and biomedical studies and are introduced to the important issues posed by the diseases that have ravaged humankind. (10 credits)

3. Multicultural America: History, Gender, Ethnicity. fall 2003; fall 2004

This community investigates the United States' multicultural past. Students gain insight that enhances their ability to communicate across lines of race, gender and ethnicity in a diverse society that includes African Americans, Asian Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans and European immigrants. Students earn 9 general studies credits.
