Criteria for Undergraduate Research Scholarships for Liberal Arts and Sciences students
Please review the criteria for each scholarship before completing the application to be sure that you meet the requirements.
General Criteria for CLAS Research Scholarships
- Undergraduate student (includes current ASU students, incoming freshmen and transfer students pursuing their first four-year college degree)
- Have a declared major in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, ASU Tempe Campus
- Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU)
- Full-time enrollment (Twelve semester hours. If you are awarded a scholarship and do not maintain full-time enrollment, your scholarship may be cancelled.)
- Students must have a proposed research project.
- Students must obtain the written support of a faculty member in the ASU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who will supervise the research experience.
- Students are encouraged to present their research results in a public forum.
- Financial need is not required
Sheldon Davidson Family Research Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Students must demonstrate the “ability to think” about contemporary issues and to resolve them with innovative solutions. Additional essay required as part of application.
Sun Angel Excellence in the Humanities Research Scholarships - Additional Criteria
- Declared a major in English, film and media studies, history, languages and literatures, philosophy or religious studies.
- At least 60 hours completed, with 15 hours completed at ASU
- Students must enroll in a 499 course in the major and work with an advisor to produce a scholarly paper (or equivalent) in the humanities. The 499 independent study course may not be concurrent with the Honors thesis or with a pro-seminar, but it may be a springboard to either one.
- Students planning to apply through the English Department are advised to attend a preparatory workshop. The next workshop will be held from 3-4pm on Wednesday March19 in LL214D. Please RSVP to Professor Rosalynn Voaden RosalynnVoaden@asu.edu or contact her if you have any questions.
- Half of the funds will be distributed at the beginning of the semester, with the remaining funds distributed upon receipt of a satisfactory progress report.
Women and Philanthropy Access to Undergraduate Research in the Sciences Scholarships - Additional Criteria
- Declared a major in Chemistry and Biochemistry, Earth and Space Exploration, Kinesiology, Life Sciences, Materials, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, Psychology or Speech and Hearing Science
- Preference for female and under-represented students.
- If the award is made for the academic year, half the funds will be distributed at the start of the fall semester. The remaining funds will be distributed at the start of the spring semester upon receipt of a satisfactory progress report from the student and the faculty member.
