CLAS Convocation

This ceremony is only for CLAS students who are Bachelor and Master degree candidates. The name of each degree candidate is announced before he/she crosses the stage to receive congratulations from his/her department chair or program director and Divisional Dean.

Who can participate in the CLAS Graduation Convocation ceremony?

1. All CLAS students who file for graduation may walk in the Convocation. One month before the ceremony a Commencement/Convocation invitation packet will be mailed to each student who has applied for graduation by the filing deadline (October 15, 2008). For students who miss this deadline, you will need to pick-up an invitation packet*.
2. CLAS students who completed their last credits in previous semesters or plan to complete them in future semesters may walk. These students need to pick-up a Commencement*/Convocation invitation packet.

* Invitation packets will be available starting November 12, 2008 in the Office of Student and Academic Programs, ASU Fulton Center, Suite 110.

THE GRADUATION APPLICATION FILING DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 15, 2008.

Cap & Gown: Students must wear an official ASU cap and gown during the ceremony. Sales begin late October 2008 at the ASU Bookstore.

Honor Cords: The Graduation Office, SSV 140, distributes honor cords when students apply for graduation.

Commencement and Convocation Program: The CLAS Convocation Program appears with the Commencement Program. Names of students who do not apply for graduation by the application deadline will not appear in the Program.

The ASU Commencement Ceremony is open to all degree candidates. The President of ASU confers degrees for all graduating students at this ceremony. Undergraduate students are seated by college and the entire graduating class of the college is asked to stand when the degrees are conferred. Doctoral candidates will be "hooded" and announced by name. Master candidates will wear their hoods into the arena; they will not be hooded during the ceremony. Masters candidates will follow the faculty into the arena during the processional and be seated together. Master candidates will be asked to stand and be recognized as a group.
