Financing Law School

Develop a Budget

Determine education costs and living expenses while attending law school, then develop a budget to determine your current resources and how much money you need to save and/or seek in financial assistance. Try this: keep a log on all of your expenses, including trivial ones, for a month. The expense log will provide you with a realistic sense of your current finances.

The following are expenses to consider:

Educational

  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Books and supplies
  • Other related educational expense

Living

  • Rent/mortgage
  • Utilities
  • Food
  • Transportation
  • Insurance (health, life, car, home)
  • Clothing
  • Child care

Miscellaneous

  • Entertainment
  • Other personal expenses

Identify all your costs and construct a budget.
