Criteria for First-Generation Scholarships
Applications for 2010-11 scholarships will be available in March 2010.
Review the criteria for each scholarship before completing the application to be sure that you meet the requirements. Applicants will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

General Criteria for First-Generation Scholarships
- Undergraduate student (includes current Arizona State University students, incoming freshmen and transfer students pursuing their first four-year college degree).
- Admitted to and enrolled in a degree program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, ASU at the Tempe campus.
- Students must be first-generation college students (neither parent earned a four-year college/university degree).
- Full-time enrollment (12 semester hours) during the semester you receive the scholarship. If you do not maintain full-time enrollment, your scholarship may be cancelled.
Carole and Robert Behrens First-Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Financial need is required (need is established by completion of the FAFSA.).
- Minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
- No residency requirement.
- Minimum of sophomore standing.
- Preference for a History major.
- Preference for a married student.
CLAS Alumni First-Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Financial need is a factor (need is established by completion of the FAFSA.).
- Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.
- Preference for Arizona resident.
- Minimum of sophomore standing at the time the scholarship is received.
- Preference for applicants who demonstrate a strong work ethic and volunteer spirit and who demonstrate the ability to interact thoughtfully with others and a curiosity about learning new ideas and expanding one’s own cultural experiences. Essay question about volunteer and leadership activities.
- Essay question on the value of selecting a liberal arts degree as their major.
CLAS First-Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Financial need is a factor (need is established by completion of the FAFSA.).
- Minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
- Arizona residency required.
Dean’s Advancement Council First-Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Financial need is a factor (need is established by completion of the FAFSA.).
- Minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
- Arizona residency required.
Al and Viola Madrid Endowed Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Financial need is a factor (need is established by completion of the FAFSA.).
- Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
- No residency requirement.
- Freshmen only.
- Letter of recommendation required.
- Recipients must demonstrate leadership skills.
McKee Family Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Preference for students who graduated from South Mountain High School or Central High School or graduated from South Mountain Community College or Phoenix College.
- Preference for recipients completing their junior year (sophomore at time of application).
- Preference for students in the following majors: African and African American studies, American Indian studies, justice studies, religious studies, transborder Chicana/o and Latina/o studies and women and gender studies.
- Letter of recommendation required.
Recipients must provide evidence of commitment to the community through service and a personal statement that reflects both academic and personal goals.
John and Susan Rockefeller First-Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Financial need is required (need is established by completion of the FAFSA.).
- No minimum GPA for incoming freshmen.
- Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA for current ASU students and incoming transfer students .
- Arizona or California resident.
- Preference for California resident.
- Preference for freshmen and transfer students.
