Transfer Courses

In-state public institutions

If you want to transfer courses to ASU from Arizona community colleges and you have no other transfer credits, you should go directly to the advisor in the department of your major. Acceptance of these community college credits by ASU has been pre-negotiated, and the credits will be reflected in the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS).

Your department academic advisor can:

  • Help determine if there are any courses from NAU or the University of Arizona that require further evaluation.
  • Answer any questions about university, college or major requirements.

In-state private and all out-of-state institutions

You must be formally admitted to ASU before your transcripts can be evaluated.

After you are admitted:

  • Request an evaluation of all credits transferred from postsecondary institutions outside Arizona and any in-state private institutions. The advising office will determine whether the courses meet ASU's General Studies and college graduation requirements.

  • The college requires a first-year composition equivalent. If an equivalency has not been posted on the computer system, the advisor will direct you to the Writing Programs Office in Language and Literature Bldg., Room 314.

  • In some cases, mathematics courses must also be evaluated by the First-Year Math Office located in Physical Sciences, A-Wing, Room 211. If, after their review, the math department awards an equivalency to your transfer course, you must then take the paperwork you receive from the First-Year Math Office to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Graduation Office in Fulton Center 110 for posting into the DARS system.

  • You will recieve an e-mail after your full transfer evaluation is completed. Meet with your department academic advisor to discuss the results and whether any of your transfer courses can be used toward the requirements of your major. That advisor can clear you for registration.
