First-Year Programs

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers you a "small-college" experience in the midst of a large metropolitan university.

These programs provide ample opportunity for small-group interaction, making it easy for you to form bonds with other new students and with some of the college's best faculty.

Liberal Arts and Sciences Residential College
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Residential College at Hassayampa Academic Village offers first-year students a unique opportunity to enrich their academic experience.  The Residential College promotes learning beyond the walls of the classroom by providing opportunities for students to share common interests, develop a support system and foster relationships with peers, faculty, and advisors.

First-Year Seminars
Small, one-credit hour, elective courses are taught by some of the finest scholars in the college and represent the full range of the liberal arts and sciences disciplines. These seminars expose students to a variety of opportunities within the college and may include introductions to the majors, career development, current research and special topics.

Academic Success Clusters
Offered in the fall semester, Academic Success Clusters are a great way to meet people and improve study habits. Groups of 19 first-semester freshmen are clustered together in the same critical courses. Students register for a pre-set schedule that includes general studies classes and a student success seminar—all at popular times and days of the week.

Fall Welcome
Kick off the school year by attending the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Fall Welcome, held annually the Friday before classes start. Hear lectures by award-winning faculty, learn about various majors and be introduced to the wide range of activities and opportunities that are part of the college.
