Accept the Fulton Challenge!
For a limited time, you can double the impact of your investment in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and its students.
From March 1 until Dec. 31, 2005, philanthropist Ira A. Fulton is matching all unrestricted gifts of up to $5,000 from CLAS alumni, faculty, staff and students.
To qualify for the Fulton Challenge match, your gift must be directed to the Dean’s Investment Fund, which enables the college to respond to urgent needs and emerging opportunities. The college’s highest priority is ensuring student success, and the Dean’s Investment Fund will be used to further that objective.
"I have been blessed financially," says Fulton, chief executive officer of Tempe-based Fulton Homes, one of the state’s largest residential builders, "and now I know why. It is to help Arizona State University move forward. I don’t look at this as a donation but rather as an investment in the future."
Fulton will match up to a total of $100,000 in gifts made to CLAS during this initial short-term challenge. His goal is to inspire charitable giving among those most closely affiliated with the college and to help create a culture of philanthropy at ASU. If this challenge is met, Fulton has indicated that he may give more.
This is a first-ever opportunity for members of the CLAS community—alumni, faculty, staff and students—to double the impact of their investment in the college," says Vice President and Dean David Young. "The college’s highest priority is ensuring the success of our students, and this generous challenge will enable us to do that twice as well. I share Ira’s confidence that you will join us in this effort to support liberal arts and sciences students."

Dr. Buley Retiring from Communication
Dr. Jerry Buley is retiring after thirty-one years from the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication. The school has greatly expanded from the original eight faculty and twenty five majors to now include 27 faculty and over 1,900 majors.
Dr. Buley says that though he will miss working with undergraduate students he is looking forward to pursing his interest in writing (he is developing a consumer oriented book on relational conflict), writing software to analyze transcripts of couples conversations, and teaching communication seminars in exciting travel destinations to ASU alumni (read more at MyInterludes.Com about the Couples Romantic Seminar/Tour of Venice, Italy taking place in September.)
The Hugh Downs School is hosting a retirement party for Dr. Buley from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on April 29 at the University Club on the main ASU campus. The School cordially invites all Dr. Buley’s friends and former students to attend. For more information call 480 965-5095.
