Reunite with old college friends and relive your days at ASU. Take a stroll through the Alumni Art Show with alumni artists from the Herberger College of Fine Arts. Meet CLAS Alumni authors signing books at the book fair.  Enjoy live music, food, spirit games, face painting and other festival activities. Take the whole family and enjoy inflatable rides, exhibits, dance shows and much more. After the event be sure to support our exciting 2004 Sun Devil football team as the take on Stanford in Sun Devil Stadium at 4:30 p.m.

Janet Effland
Former General Partner, Apax Partners

Janet Effland earned a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1971 and a law degree in 1974 from ASU. She retired last year after 15 years with Apax Partners, one of the world's leading private equity firms. In 2003, Forbes Magazine listed Effland as the nation's fifth most-profitable venture capitalist.

Michael A. Helfant
Chief Operating Officer, Holding Pictures

Michael Helfant earned his bachelor's degree in political science from ASU in 1978. He also holds a JD/MBA from UCLA. As an executive with a variety of motion picture companies for the past 15 years, he has been involved in the distribution of such movies as "Raising Helen," "Scream," "Mr. Holland's Opus," "Runaway Bride" and "My Left Foot."

Tayari Jones
Novelist; Assistant Professor of English, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Tayari Jones earned her M.F.A. in creative writing from ASU in 2000. Her master's thesis, the novel "Leaving Atlanta," was published by Warner Books in 2002 and was named best novel of the year by Atlanta Magazine. Her second novel, "The Untelling," will be published next year.

The 6th Annual Wine Festival is starting to take shape! Join the CLAS Alumni Board for an evening of wine tasting, delectable appetizers, a silent auction and socializing with other CLAS Alumni and students.

The Wine Festival was created in order to fund travel or study abroad scholarships for students from the College of Liberal Arts and Science. This flagship event for the CLAS Alumni Board has been extremely successful over the past five years, and we are looking forward to another record breaking year of raising money for our students. Tickets will go on sale in early spring – keep your eye out for additional information. CLAS Study & Travel Abroad Scholarships Change Lives

The Arizona State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) Alumni Chapter is pleased to announce that it will fund two $1,000 scholarships for international travel or study abroad. This is an increase of $500 per scholarship over previous awards. In an effort to foster a better understanding of international relations, different cultures, and ways of living, the CLAS

Alumni Chapter Board created the CLAS Alumni International Scholarship in honor of Former Dean Gary S. Krahenbuhl. Applications will be made available online and through advisors.

 

Congratulations to the 2004 recipients of the Alumni International Scholarship: Matthew Dexter, a sophomore English, history and Spanish major who will be using his award to study in Cambridge, England and Rebecca Webb, a sophomore religious studies major with an interest in Islamic Studies who will be studying in Jordan.  For more information please contact Marla Giarratano at (480)965-0377 or at marla.giarratano@asu.edu.
