Dear Colleagues, Students, and Friends of ASU: Together with the Herberger College School of Music and the Department of English, the Department of Languages and Literatures (soon to be the School of International Languages and Cultures) will offer an unprecedented course on "Opera and Literature" during the spring semester of 2007. Anticipating the goals of our new School of International Literatures and Cultures, this truly interdisciplinary course will focus on ten operas in modern European languages and the literary texts which inspired them. Literary specialists will present and analyze the literary source texts; experts in opera will lecture on the operas themselves. Open to all graduate and undergraduate students, this new course is cross-listed in French, Italian, FLA, English, and Music (494/598). Faculty, alumni, members of the Phoenix arts community and other guests are welcome. The operas and literary texts are listed below and may be ordered in advance from the site. As this course is probably a one-time offering, we urge you to explore the links below. We would appreciate your sending our web site link to others who may be interested. Please print and post our flyer in appropriate venues. Yours most sincerely, |
