CLAS: Alumni Communications March 2007 Alumni Newsletter
Quentin Wheeler, New Vice President and Dean, CLAS
Quentin Wheeler, an entomologist whose pursuits include beetle morphology and classification, and the role of taxonomy in biodiversity exploration and conservation, was appointed ASU vice president and dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in late December. He succeeds David A. Young, who has moved into the newly created position of ASU senior vice president for academic affairs.
In Wheeler's new dual role as founding director of the International Institute for Species Exploration, and ASU vice president and dean of the university’s largest and most diverse college, he joins a new breed of deans at ASU — active researcher and visionary leader. Wheeler joined ASU in July as a professor in the School of Life Sciences with the task of establishing the new research institute. Soon after, he was asked to serve as the interim dean of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics before his new appointment of vice president and dean. The alumni chapter of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will be volunteering at the one-mile water station for Pat’s Run, a 4.2 mile run held in memory of ASU football great Pat Tillman.
We are currently recruiting for 30 energetic volunteers to work the Mile 1 Aid Station for Pat’s Run on April 7, 2007. Anyone who is 18 years or older and is interested in representing CLAS or ASU as an alumni, student, or volunteer (or friends and family of the same) are invited to attend.
Some of our CLAS Cares volunteers were fellow classmates of Pat Tillman and we are thrilled to have members of CLAS Cares who can share experiences that represent incredible memories of Pat.
