Alumni Scholarships

CLAS Alumni Scholarships for Study & Travel Abroad

The Arizona State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Alumni Leadership Council have three $1,000 scholarships available for students who study and/or travel abroad during their academic career at ASU. The intent of these scholarships is to provide students with a better understanding of international relations through experiencing different cultures and other ways of living.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR 2008 IS NOW CLOSED.

THE 2009 APPLICATION PROCESS WILL OPEN IN NOVEMBER 2008.

General Criteria for both Scholarships

  • Undergraduate student
  • Declared major in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
  • Scholarship must be used for study or travel abroad related expenses
  • No residency requirement
  • Preference for students enrolled in international programs sponsored by ASU

     

    Additional Criteria for the CLAS Alumni International Scholarship

    The CLAS Alumni Leadership Council created the CLAS Alumni International Scholarship in honor of former Dean Gary S. Krahenbuhl.
  • Recipient must have a GPA of 3.2 or greater
  • Recipient must have minimum of sophomore status and at least 12 credit hours earned at ASU
  • Scholarship must be used for study or travel abroad related expenses in the year following the receipt of the award (including the summer)
  • Primary consideration will be on merit
  • Preference will be given for programs abroad lasting three months or more in duration
  • Scholarship recipients are required to submit a written report and make a short presentation to the CLAS Alumni Leadership Council following their travel

    Additional Criteria for the Anne T. Wethington Travel Abroad Scholarship

    Anne T. Wethington wishes to provide an opportunity for students to expand their cultural experiences by traveling abroad but whose access to international travel has been limited.
  • Recipient must have a GPA of 3.5 or greater
  • Recipient must be a full-time student
  • Primary consideration will be on merit
  • Preference is for students whose access to international travel and the ability to interact with other cultures may have been limited due to financial or other limitations.
  • Preference for a student interested in design

    Selection Process

    Students must complete and submit applications to Michele Daley, ASU CLAS Office of Student and Academic Programs, Fulton Center, Suite 110, 300 E. University Dr., Tempe, AZ 85287-6405 by Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.

    Scholarship recipients will be selected based upon an application, proposed study/travel plans, essay and interview with the CLAS Alumni Leadership Council.

    The CLAS Alumni Leadership Council may amend the selection criteria, provided the changes comply with ASU and the ASU Foundation regulations. The Council also reserves the right to decide not to award the scholarships if deserving recipients cannot be identified in any given year.
